Sea turtles travel back to the same beach that they themselves were born at to lay their eggs - some females traveling thousands of miles just to make their way back!
Sea turtle nesting season officially began on March 1 and will continue until late October. This year on the morning of March 24, the first nest was reported in Boca Raton, Florida, in South Beach Park belonging to a Leatherback Sea Turtle. The nest contained a total of 96 eggs and 26 spacers (yolkless eggs).
South Florida beaches are home to many nesting sea turtles every year. To keep up to date on how many nests there are and what species have laid them, follow the link below to see what our friends at Gumbo Limbo are tracking every single day!
